Megumi Masaki (Piano)
Megumi Masaki is a Japanese-Canadian pianist, multimedia performing artist, educator, and curator of international distinction. A transformative force in contemporary music, she has redefined the pianist’s role through pioneering multimedia practices integrating sound, image, and emerging technologies. Over four decades, she has premiered over 180 works and co-created more than 80 interdisciplinary works, significantly expanding the global piano repertoire.
She has performed in more than 25 countries at leading venues and festivals, including the Barbican Centre, IRCAM/Centre Pompidou, ISCM World Music Days, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Her work bridges artistic excellence with environmental and human rights issues, positioning performance as a catalyst for dialogue and change.
Megumi is Full Professor at Brandon University and Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Her honours include the Order of Manitoba, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Willi Daume Prize of the German Olympic Institute, and the 2026 Violet Archer Lifetime Achievement Award.
